Acer Revo: nVidia ION is now available
by Keifu on Apr.09, 2009, under Hardware Review
Acer barely mentioned the Revo amidst its armada of cheap machines last night but after seeing what it could do, in a lot of ways, it’s the most interesting because of the performance it promises to bring to cheap computers, especially if Nvidia can get all of the software ducks in a row to take advantage of its graphics platform. Ion, BTW, is just Nvidia’s brand for its MC79 graphics chip (the GeForce 9400M at the heart of the new Macbooks) coupled with Intel’s netbook Atom CPUs. Revo is the first announced product to use Ion. Nvidia couldn’t reveal the final pricing me, only that it’s "really aggressive" and "well under" $500.
I have lost count on the number of times people asked me if they could play games on a netbook. If you are asking the same question, the answer is a resounding yes, now. That is if you have a netbook with nVidia’s latest ION platform. Essentially it is a Geforce 9400M coupled with Intel’s Atom processor. This is really game changing in the cheap computer space.

Acer thinks Android Netbooks are not ready for primetime
by Keifu on Apr.08, 2009, under General
At an Acer event last night, Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci and product guy Jim Wong confirmed they’d been playing around with Android in the labs, but didn’t think an Android netbook was ready for primetime. Beyond the previously-confirmed Acer A1 Android smartphone, Wong confirmed that they’ve prototyped android on a netbook, and that "it has a good chance" of making it into the hands of consumers, though he didn’t foresee any desktop application at the moment. He says the big obstacle is making sure consumers get a full-fledged browser experience, and that they’ll share more when they feel it’s consumer ready.

11.6” Acer Aspire One photos and specs
by Keifu on Apr.07, 2009, under Hardware Review
The 11.6-inch Acer Aspire One is now official. It’s an inch thick, boasts a LED backlit screen with WXGA resolution, and runs the usual netbook internals like an Intel Atom processor, 160GB HDD and 802.11 b/g WiFi. On top of that there’s Bluetooth, 3G, Dolby Pro Logic Sound and a multicard reader. It’s also got a 8-hour lifespan with a 6 cell 5200mAh battery. Build quality is top-notch for its class, and we’d say Acer’s doing good by the Aspire One name — though they’re messing with any sort of tight definition of "netbook" in the process. No word yet on price or availability.

Engadget has the first video review of the Acer Aspire One D250
by Keifu on Apr.06, 2009, under Hardware Review, Video
Just barely days after the official announcement of the N280 equipped Acer Aspire One D250, Engadget has already acquired an unit and has posted the first video review.
Other than the slightly tweaked N280 Atom processor (1.66Ghz), there are nothing visually different from previous Acer netbooks. But do you notice how Acer and Asus netbooks are looking a tad too similar nowadays?
First Look at the 11.6 Acer Aspire One 751
by Keifu on Apr.01, 2009, under Hardware Review

We’ve just seen Acer Germany officially release two more Aspire One 10.1-inchers and now PC World Norway have gotten a hold of a preproduction model of the upcoming 11.6” Acer Aspire One 751.
First impressions are good. The trackpad is larger and the buttons don’t seem to be stiff. The redesigned HP Mini like keyboard is slightly wider than previous Aspire Ones (8.9-inch and 10.1-incher have the same keyboard). The 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 screen is glossy, bright and has good image quality.
Upgrade wise, you have easy access to the hard drive, memory and Wi-Fi / 3G on the back.
The test unit only came with an Atom Z520 (1.33GHz) and a 3-cell battery but it will also be available with an Atom Z530 (1.6GHz) processor and a 6-cell battery. The 3-cell battery is rated at 4 hours while the 6-cell battery is rated at 8 hours.
It comes with a 11.6” 1366 x 768 Display, Atom Z520-530 CPU, SCH USW15S Chipset, GMA500 Graphics, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD and Windows XP Pro. It weights only 2.7 lbs (with the 3-cell battery I assume) and is under an inch thick (0.86 - 0.98 inches).

Acer releases new Aspire One at CeBit
by Keifu on Mar.07, 2009, under CeBit

PortableMonkey.com reported seeing yet another Acer Aspire One, presumably a 10.1 incher.
Physically, it looks almost identical to the Diamond Black AOD150 10.1” model but the ports on the sides have been re-arranged with the card reader being placed on the right. The battery is also reported to be rounder. On the AOD150, it is flat and sloping down rather than bulging out. Other than these, the unit remains the same. Check out the pictures of the mystery Aspire One model.
