Windows 7 Touch Pack: Surface Interface Without the Big-Ass Table
by Keifu on Jul.11, 2009, under Video, Win 7
I scored one of the only copies of Windows 7 Touch Pack out in the wild, and it really blew my mind, bringing the full power of Microsoft Surface to touch-enabled Win 7 PCs. Have a look:
In my first go-around with Win 7 touch, I didn’t feel so much ooh-aah as I felt relief, relief that Microsoft had actually baked intelligent touch controls directly into the new operating system. Once again, my touch experience is with the optically driven HP TouchSmart PC, this time running Windows 7 Release Candidate build 7100. Nothing you see is third-party, except for the beta TouchSmart multitouch drivers by NextWindows.
Can’t wait to install and run this on a multi-touch version of netbooks.

Archos 9 Win 7 Tablet is looking very sweet
by Keifu on Jun.14, 2009, under Hardware Review, Video, Win 7
The Archos 9 Windows 7 touch tablet has made it through its first round of show floor pageantry, briefly falling into the the expectant hands of the guy(s) from ArchosFans. The mildly romantic encounter was captured on video, for posterity.
The most important piece of the Archos 9’s hardware—its 9-inch resistive touchscreen—works quite well here. (It’s on smaller screens where the difference between resistive and capacitive screen starts to stand out, but that’s another story.) The rest of the hardware, barring the alarmingly creaky "kickstand," looks solid and attractive, especially considering the USD$650 price point.
Windows 7, as we know, is fairly well suited to touchscreens, though on this particular device I think the simple addition of smooth touch scrolling for IE would do wonders.
Sidenote: take a good look at this form factor, because it’s more or less what the mythical "Apple Tablet" is said to look like. I’m torn: on the one hand, I’d love to play with one, and it could be nice browsing device for the sofa; on the other, I could see getting tired of holding my hands up to the screen all the time, since it’s too big to thumb. Just sayin’!

Review of Toshiba NB205
by Keifu on Jun.01, 2009, under Hardware Review, Video

On paper the Toshiba NB205 looks like most of the other netbooks we have seen over the past year (10.1-inch display, Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM and Windows XP), but in person it really stands out. With a unique design, stellar keyboard and trackpad combo, and a long-lasting battery that’s rated for a whopping 9 hours of endurance, Toshiba’s NB205 is a breath of fresh air.
We have been seeing better and better looking netbooks, but the Toshiba NB205 is hands-down one of the most stunning we have seen and have had the chance to use. Toshiba is offering two different versions of the NB205. The $399 version we used has a well-designed lid with raised horizontal lines. Our model was Sable Brown and had an overall professional look. It will also come in Royal Blue, Posh Pink, and Frost White. The $349 version will be offered only in black, and will have Toshiba’s smooth fusion finish (rather than the raised pattern).

Video review of the Acer Aspire One 751h
by Keifu on May.29, 2009, under Hardware Review, Video
Not to be mistaken with the Vmedia-equipped Aspire One 571, Acer’s Aspire One 751h has just been handled over at GadgetMix. The machine, which rocks a pretty unorthodox setup for a netbook, was said to sport one of the best displays ever put on a netbook, but that lethargic Atom Z520 CPU made the standard fare N270 feel like a real speed demon. Of course, such a sleepy processor allowed for nearly 5.5 hours of real-world battery life, and the multi-touch trackpad definitely sweetened the deal. Have a look past the break for a bootup video, and tap the read link for the full rundown of pics and impressions. Read more

Another review of the MSI X320 13.3” Netbook
by Keifu on Apr.07, 2009, under Hardware Review, Video
Think MacBook Air (those clever guys at SlashGear even grabbed some shots of it next to an Air). More impressive is that even despite its thinness it packs a good amount of ports, including 3 USB, Ethernet, VGA Out and a mic and headphone. It also has a card reader. As for weight, we sure believe the 2.9 pound claim since the notebook was very light. Like the Wind, the X320 has a minimalist design and is available in champagne, black and white. The glossy champagne lid wasn’t flashy and we appreciated how the MSI logo centered on the lid was backlit (stealing yet another design cue from the Air). Under the lid is a 13.4 inch glossy display surrounded by a fairly thick, glossy black bezel. The X320 has a full-size keyboard with a similar feel to the one on the Wind. While the trackpad is large and spacious, there is that same single mouse button that we didn’t exactly love on the original Wind.

Engadget has the first video review of the Acer Aspire One D250
by Keifu on Apr.06, 2009, under Hardware Review, Video
Just barely days after the official announcement of the N280 equipped Acer Aspire One D250, Engadget has already acquired an unit and has posted the first video review.
Other than the slightly tweaked N280 Atom processor (1.66Ghz), there are nothing visually different from previous Acer netbooks. But do you notice how Acer and Asus netbooks are looking a tad too similar nowadays?
Samsung N310 gets video hands-on
by Keifu on Mar.28, 2009, under Hardware Review, Video
We must confess, the first round of Samsung N310 photos we saw didn’t exactly fill us with lust. Not rubbery enough to be properly rugged, and not innovative enough to stand apart from the crowds of other netbooks on the market, the N310 rocks its curvy casing and Atom N270 processor but doesn’t carve much of a niche. It’s an opinion this Blogeee hands-on video does nothing to diminish.

Sony Vaio P video review
by Keifu on Mar.21, 2009, under General, Hardware Review, Video
The Sony VAIO P notebook is easily the smallest notebook I have used with a keyboard that allows touch typing. In this video I give a tour of the VAIO P that shows off all the features of the little notebook. I demonstrate how easy it is to type on the keyboard and give a feel for the performance of the VAIO P.
