Gateway’s sexy 11.6” Win 7 Tablet

by Keifu on Oct.05, 2009, under Hardware Review, Win 7

A tipster with access to a seemingly infinite number of photos of this bad boy also shot over a spec sheet of the purported EC18T, and here’s what we’re looking at. This 11.6-incher is going to boast an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, up to 4GB of DDR3 SDRAM, a Mobile Intel GS45 Express graphics chipset, and it’ll run either Windows 7 Home Premium or Basic. Of course, none of this is official information, and we have no info on pricing or availability yet. Hit the gallery after the break for a plethora of photos.

Hanvon’s Win 7 Multitouch Tablet!

by Keifu on Sep.29, 2009, under Hardware Review, Win 7

This could be the netbooklet I have been waiting for. A chinese company , Hanvon or Hanwang will being shipping a tablet running Windows 7 operating system with a Atom processor inside. This 8.9-inch, two USB port-sporting device can pull off multi-touch pinching and zooming and outfitted in a rather becoming all-aluminum case. It could make for a pretty desirable movie-playing machine on the go, provided it has the battery prowess for such tasks.

Phoenix Instant Boot BIOS starts loading Windows in under a second

by Keifu on Sep.24, 2009, under General, Win 7

Phoenix is showing off a few interesting things at IDF, but the real standout is their new Instant Boot BIOS, a highly optimized UEFI implementation that can start loading an OS in just under a second. Combined with Windows 7’s optimized startup procedure, that means you’re looking at incredibly short boot times — we saw a retrofitted Dell Adamo hit the Windows desktop in 20 seconds, while a Lenovo T400s with a fast SSD got there in under 10. It’s pretty slick stuff, and it should be out soon.

Viliv’s S10 "Blade" Netbook Tablet Boasts 10 Hours of Battery Life and Windows 7

by Keifu on Sep.24, 2009, under Hardware Review, Win 7

The S10 has a 10-inch resistive, swivelling touchscreen (which means no multi-touch, sorry guys) and a full QWERTY keyboard that’s only marginally awkward to type on (better than average for 10-inchers, but not as good as the HP Mini). It’s available in a few configurations, having either the 1.33GHz or the 2.0GHz Atom, 1GB of memory, either a 60GB HDD or 32GB SSD and the usual smattering of wireless protocols (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G). Interestingly, Viliv claims 10 hours of battery life (or 7 for straight video) which is awfully impressive, especially seeing as how this is one thin netbook.

Multi-touch booklet from Microsoft

by Keifu on Sep.22, 2009, under General

image

This is really cool and since it’s MHO that this is where netbooks of today is heading, I am adding it here.

The Courier, as it is known, is a dual screen (7” vertical each) that supports multitouch and stylus entry. the 2 screens work seamlessly and allows the users to simply flip content from one screen to the next. When not in use, the Courier can be folded like a book and resembles a Moleskine notepad with a leathery finish.

No indication on pricing right now. Go watch the demo video here.

MSI Wind U110 now with 15 hour Battery life

by Keifu on Sep.22, 2009, under Hardware Review

Basically, this is the same netbook as the older U110, but subs the 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 for a 1.3GHz Intel Atom Z530. The new processor is better for power efficiency, but has shown less performance punch than the typical netbook Atom. The system still has the same 1GB memory and 160GB hard drive. It’s also offered with either Windows XP or Vista.

The real difference here is that giant 9-cell battery which supposedly gives a 15-hour run, and I guess the "Eco" name, which doesn’t seem to refer to any particular environmental update. That battery doesn’t only give the netbook a larger behind, but it adds to its weight. List price is USD$430, though Newegg has it right now for USD$400.

ASUS ION-based Eee PC 1201n Netbook (with Win 7)

by Keifu on Sep.20, 2009, under General, Win 7

The 12-inch netbook with NVIDIA’s Ion technology — is actually on schedule for an autumn release. Unfortunately, the machine is still humming along on Intel’s near-ancient Atom N270 processor, though the 2GB of RAM, high(er) resolution panel, real man’s GPU and Windows 7 operating system should help move things along. Per usual, we don’t expect ASUS to confirm or deny the legitimacy of this slip, but if you’re in the market for an Eee, this may be all you needed to hold off just a bit.

Technical specifications Asus Eee PC 1201N

  • Processor: Intel Atom N270 Diamondville
  • Chipset: Nvidia Ion LE
  • Memory: 2GB DDR2
  • Hard drive: 250GB SATA 5400RPM
  • Screen: LED 1366×768 pixels

Unboxing of Nokia Netbook

by Keifu on Sep.19, 2009, under Uncategorized

Might as well add your own soundtrack, because chances are, you won’t be able to understand what the narrator with a tattoo on his left hand is saying. Not that you really need, as you can probably get the gist of this Nokia Booklet 3G unboxing. We’ve got blue packaging, a power brick, a "Hello, Hei" greeting just under the portable itself, and a fairly sleek portable to boot.

The nokia Netbook 3G, as the name suggests, comes with a 3G module that will allow you to insert your 3G SIM card and thus do away with those unsightly dongle and USB adapter. Also of note is the OS that it will be shipped with. The Nokia Netbook will come with Windows 7 installed. With the improved power management in Windows 7, the Nokia Netbook’s battery life is stated at an impressive 12 hours.

Windows 7 Spotted on eCafe brand of netbook

by Keifu on Sep.19, 2009, under Uncategorized

The eCAFÉ EC-1000W is destined to ship at the tail end of October (you know, just after Win7 hits the streets), and while the 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, 1GB RAM module and 250GB hard drive are totally predictable, we get the feeling it’ll just feel nicer thanks to the revitalized OS. Other specs include a 10.1-inch display (1,024 x 600), 50GB of online storage, a chiclet-style keyboard, 802.11n WiFi, a 6-cell battery, integrated webcam / microphone, three USB 2.0 sockets, audio in / out, a VGA output, Ethernet and a multicard reader. Not bad for USD$399.

Nettop: LG XPION X30

by Keifu on Sep.19, 2009, under Uncategorized

Apparently not content to let ASUS have all the fun, LG’s just announced the XPION X30, its first Ion-based nettop. This little fella features an Atom N230 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 250GB HDD, and ships with Windows Vista (for the time being, at least). Aside from sporting six (count ‘em!) USB ports, it weighs in at a mere 2.4 lbs, draws just 40 watts of power, and can be VESA mounted to the back of your LCD. But never mind all that — as long is it allows us to stream American Ninja from Netflix with minimal fuss we’re happy. Debuts tomorrow in Korea.
